2022 marks 12 years since I registered my business and it’s been an interesting journey that has led me to live on four continents.
As a business owner, I’ve learned the importance of setting goals and being intentional about my time and efforts.
Important New Year Tasks
Here are some of the things I plan on doing in January 2022 to make the transition into a new year is as seamless as possible.
Buy New Sunglasses
Most people know that I have sensitive eyes and I have been wearing prescription glasses since primary school. This year, I have decided to wear contact lenses more and ultimately get laser eye surgery.
My optometrist recommended wearing sunglasses to protect my eyes. I’ve never owned a pair, as I always wore prescription glasses 24/7. I’ve learned that there is a wide selection of sunglasses for women ranging from classic and chic to bold and playful. It’s easy to shop now for different styles and brands.
From vintage round glasses, bamboo retro frames, and classic aviator glasses, I will stand out from the crowd in my new shades.
Update My Website
As a business owner, your website is your CV and people visit to learn more about what you do and how your products and services can ultimately solve their problems.
A well-performing website gets your business noticed online and draws in potential clients — both of which are important to your success.
To prepare my business for the new year, I’ll be performing a website audit and making any necessary updates.
Things to include on your business website:
- Services Page
- Testimonials from current and past clients
- Showcase your absolute best work in your portfolio
Improve Work-Life Balance
Working from home can be quite lonely sometimes, it’s important to look after your physical and mental health.
Apart from going to the gym three times a week, I want to be more social this year and expand my network.
I will start working from coffee shops and coworking spaces, I’ll attend entrepreneur meetups and go back to traveling every 3 months. I realized that I’ve been to so many countries and cities around the world and haven’t seen much of my own country – South Africa.
Get Organized
Admin is one of my passions – I want to make sure everything runs smoothly. These are some tools that help keep me productive and organized all year long.
Digital Project Management Tools
- Trello
- Monday.com
Finance Tools
- QuickBooks: software I use for invoicing, transaction management, and bookkeeping)
- Payfast: I use this for receiving card payments from around the world
Email Marketing
- Mailchimp: sending out newsletters to my subscribers
Focus on Personal Development
It’s important to upskill by taking courses/ or signing up for workshops in different niches.
This year I would like to focus on improving my video editing skills, posting more Instagram Reels, and hosting webinars for small business owners who want to learn about SEO.
A new year brings a fresh start, it’s a good time to take steps to ensure the year starts off right!
